Grey Barona (b. 1998) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and founder of Lockhart Art Studios, known for their emotionally charged and symbolically rich body of work that blends expressive portraiture, abstract form, and layered narrative. Born and raised in Gulf Breeze / Pensacola, Florida, Barona’s early environment—marked by Southern coastal landscapes and deep personal introspection—laid the foundation for a lifelong exploration of identity, transformation, and the fluid spaces between.

 

A proudly queer and idealistic individual, Barona’s creative practice is very personal—reaching into the depths of vulnerability, empowerment, and the nuanced intersections of self. Their work transcends traditional technique, combining intuitive gesture with formal training to create visual experiences that are intimate, evocative, and unapologetically bold.

 

Barona began their formal artistic education at Pensacola State College, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Fine Art. They are continuing their studies at the University of West Florida, where they will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) so that they can further hone their conceptual voice and technical discipline.

 

In 2025, Barona relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia, expanding Lockhart Art Studios into a new chapter—deepening the studio’s mission to serve as both sanctuary and stage for creative expression. Through Lockhart, Barona engages in fine art, commissions, and collaborative installations, all grounded in a commitment to authenticity, emotional truth, and vibrant visual storytelling.

 

Their work has been exhibited in a range of group and solo shows, collected privately, and shared across platforms for its distinct combination of raw emotion and refined execution. Every piece, whether rendered on canvas or built through mixed media, invites viewers into a space of reflection, curiosity, and connection.
